For the charity of Christ presseth us: judging this, that if one died for all, then all were dead. And Christ died for all; that they also who live, may not now live to themselves, but unto him who died for them, and rose again. Wherefore henceforth, we know no man according to the flesh. And if we have known Christ according to the flesh; but now we know him so no longer. If then any be in Christ a new creature, the old things are passed away, behold all things are made new. But all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Christ; and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation. For God indeed was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, not imputing to them their sins; and he hath placed in us the word of reconciliation. For Christ therefore we are ambassadors, God as it were exhorting by us. For Christ, we beseech you, be reconciled to God.
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 103 (102):1; V. 1bc-2, 3-4, 8-9, 13-14, 17-18
R. Bless the Lord, O my soul:V. Bless the Lord, O my soul:and let all that is within me bless his holy name.Bless the Lord, O my soul, and never forget all he hath done for thee.V. Who forgiveth all thy iniquities:who healeth all thy diseases.Who redeemeth thy life from destruction:who crowneth thee with mercy and compassion.V. The Lord is compassionate and merciful:longsuffering and plenteous in mercy. He will not always be angry:nor will he threaten for ever.V. As a father hath compassion on his children,so hath the Lord compassion on them that fear him:For he knoweth our frame. He remembereth that we are dust:V. But the mercy of the Lord is from eternityand unto eternity upon them that fear him:And his justice unto children's children,To such as keep his covenant, And are mindful of his commandments to do them.
Gospel Reading: Luke 12:35-40
Let your loins be girt, and lamps burning in your hands. And you yourselves like to men who wait for their lord, when he shall return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open to him immediately. Blessed are those servants, whom the Lord when he cometh, shall find watching. Amen I say to you, that he will gird himself, and make them sit down to meat, and passing will minister unto them. And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants. But this know ye, that if the householder did know at what hour the thief would come, he would surely watch, and would not suffer his house to be broken open. Be you then also ready: for at what hour you think not, the Son of man will come.
