DR Squared: Memorial Of Saint Alphonsus Liguori, Bishop And Doctor Of The Church

First Reading:  Romans 8:1-4
There is now therefore no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh. For the law of the spirit of life, in Christ Jesus, hath delivered me from the law of sin and of death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh; God sending his own Son, in the likeness of sinful flesh and of sin, hath condemned sin in the flesh; That the justification of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the spirit.

Responsorial Psalm:  Psalm 119 (118):12b; V. 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14
R.  O Lord: teach me thy justifications.

V.  By what doth a young man correct his way?
     by observing thy words.

V.  With my whole heart have I sought after thee:
let me not stray from thy commandments.

V.  Thy words have I hidden in my heart,
that I may not sin against thee.

V.  Blessed art thou, O Lord:
     teach me thy justifications.

V. With my lips I have pronounced
all the judgments of thy mouth.

V.  I have been delighted in the way of thy testimonies,
     as in all riches.
Gospel Reading:  Matthew 5:13-19
You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt lose its savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is good for nothing any more but to be cast out, and to be trodden on by men. You are the light of the world. A city seated on a mountain cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but upon a candlestick, that it may shine to all that are in the house. So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. Do not think that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For amen I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot, or one tittle shall not pass of the law, till all be fulfilled. He therefore that shall break one of these least commandments, and shall so teach men, shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. But he that shall do and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
