The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his ways, before he made any thing from the beginning. I was set up from eternity, and of old before the earth was made. The depths were not as yet, and I was already conceived. neither had the fountains of waters as yet sprung out: The mountains with their huge bulk had not as yet been established: before the hills I was brought forth: He had not yet made the earth, nor the rivers, nor the poles of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was present: when with a certain law and compass he enclosed the depths: When he established the sky above, and poised the fountains of waters: When he compassed the sea with its bounds, and set a law to the waters that they should not pass their limits: when he balanced the foundations of the earth; I was with him forming all things: and was delighted every day, playing before him at all times; Playing in the world: and my delights were to be with the children of men.
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 8:2a; V. 4-5, 6-7, 8-9
R. O Lord our Lord, how admirable is thy name in the whole earth!V. For I will behold thy heavens, the works of thy fingers:the moon and the stars which thou hast founded. What is man that thou art mindful of him?or the son of man that thou visitest him?V. Thou hast made him a little less than the angels, thou hast crowned him with glory and honour:And hast set him overthe works of thy hands.V. Thou hast subjected all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen:moreover the beasts also of the fields. The birds of the air, and the fishes of the sea, that pass through the paths of the sea.
Second Reading: Romans 5:1-5
Being justified therefore by faith, let us have peace with God, through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access through faith into this grace, wherein we stand, and glory in the hope of the glory of the sons of God. And not only so; but we glory also in tribulations, knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience trial; and trial hope; And hope confoundeth not: because the charity of God is poured forth in our hearts, by the Holy Ghost, who is given to us.
Gospel Reading: John 16:12-15
I have yet many things to say to you: but you cannot bear them now. But when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will teach you all truth. For he shall not speak of himself; but what things soever he shall hear, he shall speak; and the things that are to come, he shall shew you. He shall glorify me; because he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it to you. All things whatsoever the Father hath, are mine. Therefore I said, that he shall receive of mine, and shew it to you.
